19 cops removed over Dangawas clash in Raj

Nineteen policemen, including two assistant sub-inspectors and a head constable of the Merta police station in Nagaur district of Rajasthan, were removed for negligence during a clash, which killed six persons including five Dalits.

The cops were removed on Saturday on charges of negligence during the clash in Dangawas village and sent to police lines, SP Nagaur Raghvendra Suhasa said, adding SHO of the police station, Nagaram, had already been suspended. "The cops were charged with negligence in discharging duties during the incident on May 14," he said.

The incident had occurred near Merta town on May 14 when two persons, Kanaram Jat and Ratna Ram Meghwal, and their supporters armed with sharp-edged weapons and guns, clashed with each other over a property in possession of Meghwal while Kanaram also staked a claim on it.

Four persons including three Dalits were killed on the day while two Dalits succumbed to injuries at a hospital in Nagaur.
