In a rude reminder of the gruesome gang rape of a 23-year-old in a moving bus in the national capital on 16 December, 2012, an 18-year-old married Nepali woman was gang raped here late on Wednesday.
The victim was found half-naked and in a semi-conscious condition nearthe Nanakpura flyover in south Delhi at approximately 7.30 am on Thursday. She was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital, where she is presently being treated. In her statement to the police, the victim has said she is married and has been living with her husband in Kotla Mubarkpur for the past two years. The victim works as a domestic help, while her husband is employed as a waiter in a restaurant in Greater Kailash. The couple hail from Kathmandu.
According to police officials, on Wednesday evening, the victim had gone to visit her brother, who lives in Chirag Dilli. 'While returning home later that night, she lost her way to the main road and approached a man sitting in a parked car for directions,' an official quoted her as saying. The main offered her a lift, saying she would get lost again if she tried to go alone.
After starting the car, the man allegedly made a call to someone and asked him to meet him in front of some house. After a few minutes, he stopped the car in front of a house and a man who had been waiting there, got in at the back. When they reached the main road, the driver asked the victim where she wanted to go, but when she said Kotla Mubarakpur, he headed towards Vasant Vihar instead. 'After picking up a third person, the men offered her water, after drinking which she partially lost consciousness,' an official said. The victim has said that then then took her to Gurgaon in the car and took turns in raping her, before dumping her near an abandoned place in Dhaula Kuan. The victim has said that she somehow managed to find her way to the main road, where she boarded an auto-rickshaw. Seeing her torn clothes and semi-conscious condition, the rickshaw driver dropped her near a tea stall in Nanakpura. A passerby saw her and called the police at 7am. A case of gang rape has been registered at the Malviya Nagar police station.
