A 16-year-old boy was strangulated to death by an unidentified person in west Delhi's Ranhola area. His body was recovered from his room by his parents on Saturday night, after they returned from a trip to Bihar.
The incident was reported to police on Saturday at approximately 10.30 pm.
When the police team reached the crime scene, officials found the body of a young boy lying on the floor with his body tied with rope and bedsheets. The deceased has been identified as Guddu Yadav, a student of a government school.
His family told police that they have rented the room to a 20-year-old man who had said that his name is Sonu, a resident of Haryana. But when they returned from Bihar, Sonu was found absconding.
'As he is absconding and for the past few days the two had living together in the house, Sonu is the prime suspect.
Also, some valuable articles were missing from the house,' a police official said.
Prima facie evidence suggests that the motive behind the murder was robbery and when Yadav opposed the attempt, he was strangled to death.
'The body has been sent for post-mortem and a team has been formed to carry out immediate investigation by launching several raids,' the official added. Yadav's father is a property dealer in Ranhola, and his mother is a house wife.
A week ago, the couple had gone to visit their home town in Bihar.
