154 Pak ceasefire violations in 3 years

As many as 154 ceasefire violations have been reported along the Line of Control (LoC) at the India-Pakistan border, the government on Tuesday.

Of these, 28 were reported in 2009, 44 during 2010, 51 in 2011 and 31 between January and August till date, minister of state for home affairs Mullappally Ramachandran told the Lok Sabha in a written reply. A total of nine security personnel were killed in the ceasefire violations during these years, he said.

Altogether 49 incidents of firing were reported and six BSF personnel were killed between 2009 and July 2012.

Of these, seven were reported in 2009, 26 in 2010, 11 during 2011 and five between January and July this year. While one BSF man was killed in 2009, two each died during 2010 and 2011, respectively, and one this year.

‘All incidents of ceasefire violations are investigated and protests are lodged with the Pakistan authorities at the appropriate level through the established mechanism,’ Ramachandran said.
