15-year-old girl jumps to her death, blames teacher

In a tragic case of harassment, a 15-year-old Class VIII student of a government school at Samaypur Badli in Outer Delhi succumbed to the injuries during the course of treatment in a hospital on Sunday.

On Wednesday afternoon, the girl allegedly jumped off fifth floor of her house after being harassed by her school teacher.

A senior police official said, ‘As per the statement given by the family of the deceased we are investigating the matter. We are questioning the students and teachers of the school to know the truth behind the incident’. The deceased was a resident of Yadav Park. An information of suicide case has been done by the hospital authority of Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital where the girl was taken soon after she jumped off,’ the official added. The family members told to police that their daughter was paraded naked inside her classroom by her school teacher alleging that she had stolen a cell phone.

According to the family, she was in depression after the incident and she tried to commit suicide earlier as well. A school mate of the victim said, ‘She broke into tears and was trembling, she then jumped down from the fifth floor.’

‘The school teacher, Suman is responsible for the incident we have lodged a complaint against her with the police,’ said a family member.

The family members and their relatives along with the residents of the area staged a protest outside the school against the teacher. They alleged that a school staff threatened them, asking them to go back home or face dire consequences.

B S Jaiswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer) said, ‘We are taking the matter seriously, and further investigation is in process.’
