‘12 molested, 5 raped, 4 targetted by eve-teasers daily in Capital’

According to a recent data of the Delhi Police, it has been found that an unprecedented rise in crimes against women has come to light this year. According to the data, as many as 12 cases of molestation were reported daily while five women complained of rape and four cases of eve-teasing have been registered in the national Capital.  

The data, in possession with Millennium Post, revealed that till April 30 this year, 1,474 cases under the section of molestation have been registered by women of all age groups including minor victims. 
However, last year till April 30, Delhi Police have registered as many as 1,255 cases of molestation. The data highlights a dozen of women in Delhi <g data-gr-id="28">are</g> registering molestation cases.  

Similarly, there is 67 per cent rise in cases of eve-teasing if the data is compared from January 1 to April 30 in the consecutive years. Till April 30 this year, 461 cases of eve-teasing have been registered <g data-gr-id="34">while</g> in 2014, around 276 cases under the section of eve-teasing have been registered till April.  

It is important to mention that this year there is a slight decrease in the registration of rape cases. The data reveals that as many as 621 women have registered a case under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code till April 30 while last year the number of rape cases were 640. 

However, according to the data, on an average at least five women become victims of rape.  

“While the figures have risen over the past year, Delhi Police claim to have solved over 90 <g data-gr-id="29">per cent</g> of the cases. The culprits have been put behind bars,” a senior police official said. 

“It’s a clear message for society and the criminals. If you don’t stop harassing and assaulting women, you will be arrested,” the officer added.

“All of Delhi’s 185 police stations have been strictly following the Police Commissioner’s clear message to adopt a zero tolerance policy while dealing with cases of crimes against women. They have been instructed to register such cases soon after the victim approaches them,” the officer added.
