According to the police, the incident took place around 9.50 am when 10-year-old Pratiksha was returning home with her father PK Das, an advocate, on his motorcycle. When they reached Dabri, a speeding DTC bus coming hit Das’ motorcycle from behind.
“Due to the collision, Das lost balance and both he and his daughter fell on the road. The errant bus driver managed to flee. But he was later apprehended,” a senior police official said.
“We received a call around 9.56 am and a team reached the spot. The two victims were lying in a pool of blood. Partiksha died on the spot, whereas Das has been admitted to a hospital,” said Surender Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West).
According to the police, Das is an advocate in the Rohini Court. They added he was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident because of which he could be saved. Pratiksha died due to excessive blood loss, police said.
A case under relevant Sections of the IPC has been registered against the errant bus driver identified as Rajbeer.
Quoting the medical test reports, another police official said Rajbeer was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. However, he was speeding when the accident took place, they said.
