Common mobility card for all buses by end of April

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government is all set to make the metro smart card pay for the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus ticket from the April end. The card will also be used in cluster buses of the Capital.
Earlier, the government launched the common mobility card but not all the buses were using it. Till date, the facility was available only on 250 buses, 200 buses of DTC and 50 of cluster scheme.
"People will use the card for both metro and the buses. The amount which is there on the card will be used for the bus fares too.
"We will also launch some recharge centres soon where people can recharge these cards. Paytm and recharge from the metro station is already available," said an official of Delhi government.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had launched the pilot 'Delhi Common Mobility Card' which will enable commuters to travel in both Delhi Metro and 250 select city buses.
The money deducted from commuters' metro cards will go to Delhi Metro Rail Corp (DMRC), which issues the Metro cards.
The money will be later transferred to the Delhi government. Delhi transport minister Kailash Gahlot said that after the trial period, a new card would be designed which would have both DMRC and Delhi government logos etched on it.
Commuters would be able to purchase and recharge these cards at all metro stations, railway stations, airports, interstate bus terminals and DTC bus pass counters.
Cities across the world had already transitioned to some or the other form of a common travel card decades ago. London, which introduced the Travelcard that can be used as an inter-modal ticket for London Underground, London Overground, Transport for London Rail, Docklands Light Railway, Tramlink, London Buses and National Rail services in the Greater London area in 1983, introduced the contactless Oyster card in 2003.
