NEW DELHI: Over 600 post graduate teachers (PGTs) have been promoted to the post of vice-principal, a move that will meet the shortage of heads of schools run by the Delhi government, an official source said.
Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has approved ad-hoc promotions to 628 PGTs to the post of vice-principal in the Delhi government's Directorate of Education, the source added.
"The promotions have been made as per services department's office memo dated November 30, 2017," an official of the Education department said.
The move will not only end the shortage of heads of schools, it will also pave way for effective leadership and all round development of children in Delhi government schools, the source added.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said building a system in which the Head of Schools operates with a deep sense of ownership towards their respective schools.
He pointed that "accountability" comes with "ownership" and he wishes to see that the School Principals along with their School Management Committees take the responsibility of running the schools in the real sense with the support of Directorate of Education.
He also highlighted the intent of his government to provide best possible opportunities and exposures to the teachers and Principals in their pursuit of excellence.
Thus, organising the programme at Vigyan Bhawan was one more attempts to convey that commitment.
