Youth dies after jumping in front of Metro

Metro services were disrupted for nearly one and half hours after a youth committed suicide at Rabindra Sarovar Metro station.

A mob went on rampage ransacking the panel room at Naktala Metro station after the people did not get trains to reach their workplaces in the morning. The RPF had to rush to the spot to bring the situation under control.

Commuters were seriously inconvenienced as the trains were stranded at various stations following the incident. The Metro is one of the most important mediums of transport within the city with thousands of people regularly availing the Metro services. Metro railway authorities had to run truncated service between Kavi Subhas and Tollygunge, Maidan and Noapara. Police said that a youth, identified as Niladri Dutta, a resident of Kharagpur , threw himself in front of a Dum Dum bound train at Rabindra Sarovar station at around 9.55 am on Thursday. The driver of the train tried to stop the train by applying sudden brake but failed. The victim’s body was stuck under train resulting in the disruption of train services between Tollygung and Maidan for nearly one and half hours.
