Woman killed for no paying Rs 2 lakh to miscreants: Officials

The investigating officers on Monday revealed that the elderly woman from Budge Budge was murdered after she refused to give Rs 2 lakh to the miscreants.

Sumitra Jashu was strangulated to death in her flat at Budge Budge in South 24-Parganas in the wee hours on Friday. Police suspect that she was killed for restricting miscreants to decamp with valuables from her house. Her body was found in with her hands and legs tied with pieces of clothes. 

Investigating officers came to know from the victim’s sister that there were some people who had been demanding Rs 2 lakh to help her settle a property related dispute. It may be mentioned that the victim and her sister went to an NGO with the dispute over their property and came in touch with one Samrat Sen. 

The police are yet to arrest anyone in this connection. Preliminary investigation revealed that someone well known to the victim was behind her murder. The accused knew well about her residence and planned the murder accordingly.
