Wife of train blast accused alleges harassment by ATS

Displaying rare courage, the wife of an accused in the 2006 Mumbai serial train blasts case, has demanded action against the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for harassing her, said her lawyer.

Saeedun-Nissa Ali, 42, the wife of Mohammed Ali, a bead seller from a slum here, has also demanded medical compensation, saying ‘mental torture’ by the ATS had affected her health.

Her husband is lodged in the Arthur Road Central Jail for the past seven years. An official from the home department, who declined to be named, said he could not comment on the issue without examining the complaint by the aggrieved woman. In a letter to Mumbai top cop Satyapal Singh, with a copy to the chief justice of Bombay  HC, Saeedun-Nissa claimed ATS officials used to barge into her hutment in the Shivaji Nagar slum at any hour.
