The festival has modern and traditional forms, ranging from rod, string and shadow puppets, to mixed performances with dance, theatre, music and more.

Since its inception in 2001, the Ishara International Puppet Theatre Festival has brought to India over 90 international puppetry companies and promoted numerous indigenous productions. Alongside Indian talent, countries that have participated include USA, Brazil, Belgium, Afghanistan, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Taiwan, Japan, Sweden, Norway, Israel, Ireland, Iran.

Produced by Teamwork productions, Ishara has provided evocative and memorable entertainment and education for Indian audiences and attracts puppeteers and enthusiasts from all over the world.
