We have an alliance with the people: Abhishek Banerjee

He said, “The Trinamool has the people with them, so it does not need any help from any other party. This is the big difference between Trinamool Congress and other parties: if it calls a workers’ rally, it becomes a mass rally, and vice versa.” “Some political leaders have no work other than trying to malign the character of Mamata Banerjee. She has become what she is today after almost 20 years of valiant struggle.” “She is confident that, by dint of the amount of development that she has brought about in the State by her tireless work in her last four-and-a-half years in power, people would look up to her for the next 50 years … the development that she has brought about in the last four-and-a-half years, the CPI(M) could not during its 34 years in power.”

The state CPI(M) leaders are, meanwhile, anxiously waiting for the party’s crucial politburo meeting on Tuesday where the main issue for discussion will be election strategy. The Central committee will meet on February 17 and 18 to discuss the matter. The state leaders in the two day meeting held on February 12 and 13 have strongly pleaded in favour of people’s alliance which is actually an alliance with the Congress. The Congress high command is keeping a tab on the situation and has decided to take a decision “in time.” Not a single word has been uttered by the party’s chairperson Sonia Gandhi in favour or against the alliance. Party veteran DP Roy also said that he would not contest in the election if any alliance was made as he found the “Alliance to be unethical.”
