‘We are every human being’s desire’

Trizya, the six-member fusion band, combines Indian classical with Western form of music. With their fine mix of different genres of music, they are making a mark in the city’s music scene. While the band was performing at Friends of Music, we got talking with the band’s frontman Darshan Singh Sur, the violinist. Here are excerpts:
Tell us about yourselves. How did you guys come together/start off?
Trizya was formed in 2010. Philosophically, the essence of the name Trizya is every human being’s desire to success in his field of competency. In pursuit of reaching the centre of inner self and then experiencing the journey of an inward to outward creative explosion, success and achievement is Trizya.
What was the first big break for you guys?
Our first performance was at Sirifort Auditorium on 15 January, 2013 and it was a big success. We are thankful to the audiences for accepting our music and this inspires us to keep striving for excellence.
Tell us something about your upcoming projects.
Chain Reaction is our new single track. We are about to launch our first album this year. Will spell the beans once the right time comes but we hope audience will like it and continue giving support to our sound.
How would you define your musical philosophy?
Our musical philosophy is viable. It’s a response towards fusion music encompassing Indian classical, rock, pop, jazz and other genres of music.
In our country, how easy (or difficult) is it to make a mark in the music scene? What do you think about the main issues are?
It was not easy spreading the word about the band as every day a new band is formed given the fact that there is no dearth of talent in the country. Our focus has been to keep following our passion despite the odds. I am glad that the independent music scene in India is growing. There are many platforms that are doing a great job in promoting independent music and new generation of talent.
Tell us a bit about your music, what do you think defines you guys?
Trizya is amalgamation of different musical traditions. The band is a combination of different genres of music that includes Indian classical, rock, pop, jazz and folk music.
What songs top your playlist right now?
Charukeshi, Three in to Three, and of course Chain Reaction are some of our favourite tracks. We also enjoy performing Maula, Saiyan.
What suggestions/advice would you have for newbies in music?
Follow your passion and the rest will fall in place.
How has Delhi been for you guys?
Delhi is our hometown and certainly it feels great to be here. It has always been influential in opening multiple doors of opportunity for musicians like us.
