“Kamala was very progressive, she was very strong. I loved the script (of the film) the minute I read it. I agreed to do this biopic because I want to know her as a person. She is a very unique person and I just want to know her better,” Vidya said.
The actor, who has delivered impressive performances in films like The Dirty Picture and Kahaani, says she doesn’t pay heed to people’s opinion about her as it affects her.
“I don’t read anything about myself. I don’t base my life on that. If I have to base it on something, I would base it on positive things,” the National Award winner said.
“People had said that after a point, masala films will not work, but even today masala films are working. There will be new kind of films coming out everyday.”
The poet was famous for her open and honest treatment of female sexuality, free from any sense of guilt and infused her writing with power, which marked her as an iconoclast.
