UPSTF, IRCTC bust Tatkal ticket booking racket, 5 held

The UP Special Task Force (UPSTF) and the IRCTC officials on Sunday jointly conducted raids at various places in the state and arrested five persons from Gonda for allegedly using illegal softwares to book Tatkal tickets and charge a premium from the passengers.

The raids were also carried out at various places in Noida following information from the accused that there were active rackets, who with the help of various softwares bypass security features of Indian Railways’ ticket booking website IRCTC and book Tatkal tickets 

within seconds, a senior STF official said.

“Today, we have alerted Noida police too. In Noida, we are searching such units which may been running illegal railway ticket racket. We have arrested five accused from Gonda. Their interrogation points to involvement of some units in Noida too,” UPSTF ASP Triveni Singh said.

Using these softwares, which are used across India, railway agents promise confirm tickets and charges a premium from the passengers, he said, adding UPSTF and IRCTC have launched a drive against it.

Those arrested from Gonda are Rameshwar Pandey, Abhay Pratap Singh, Rahul Mishra, Ram Singh alias Jagdamba Prasad Singh and Sony Pandey alias Ritu Singh, Singh said, adding that action was taken after an FIR was filed by IRCTC at the Cyber Crime police station.
