Two killed, several injured in three separate road accidents

Two persons including an employee of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) were killed in two separate road accidents in the city and its adjoining district of North 24-Parganas on late Saturday night.

The victim, Nawal Kishore Roy, a driver of a KMC dumper was taking rest on AJC Bose road flyover after getting down from the dumper as the road was closed at the SSKM side for some repair works. He was found dead on the side on early Sunday morning. Police suspect that he might have been killed after being hit by some vehicle. The police have not found a trace of any vehicle on the road from the CCTV footage. The investigating officers are now in a fix about how the accident could have taken place in the wee hours of Sunday.

Police said that the victim was driving the dumper and took the AJC Bose flyover from Park Circus side and as works were going on the other side he was taking rest by parking the vehicle on the road side. The city police have started a detail investigation to ascertain the exact cause of his death. They are not, however, ruling out the possibility of foul play behind the incident.

In another incident an elderly man died after being hit by a speeding truck. The victim has been identified as Kazir Hossain (53).

Police said that at around 10.30 pm on Saturday night, the victim was crossing Jessore road when a Bongaon bound bus hit him.

The local people rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead by the doctors. The driver of the bus fled the spot along with the vehicle immediately after the accident. Police are conducting raids to nab the accused driver.

In another incident, around 15 people were injured when a bus they were travelling in lost control and hit another vehicle on National Highway 6 at Uluberia in Howrah.

Police said that the bus was on its way to Nandigram from Kolkata and met with an accident near at Uluberia as it hit a crane standing on the side of the road.

It is suspected that the bus driver lost control over the vehicle as it was on a top speed.
