Two killed, 27 injured in road accident near Balurghat

Two persons were killed and 27 injured after a bust in which they were travelling hit a stationary truck on state highway 512 near Balughat on Monday morning, police said.

The injured persons were admitted to  Balurghat district hospital.

The police said the incident occurred due to poor visibility. Hearing a loud noise, local people went to the spot and rescued the injured passengers and took them to Hili block hospital where two passengers were declared brought dead. 

Twenty seven people were later transferred to Balurghat district hospital. 

State PWD Minister Shankar Chakraborty went to the hospital to oversee the treatment of the injured passengers. 

Miscreants kill woman, decamp with jewellery
Armed miscreants killed the wife of a local businessman and decamped with cash and jewellery in Raghunathgunj on Monday morning, police said.   

An officer said they have initiated a probe but they were yet to arrest anyone in this connection.       

The officer said a gang of armed robbers entered the house of Suman Das, a local business. Suman fell unconscious after they hit him with some heavy object. 

They forced his wife Piu to hand over the locker key. When she resisted, they killed her and fled the scene. 

When the local residents found the main gate was open, they entered the house and found both Piu and Suman lying on the floor.
