Two die in road accidents

Two people, including a nine-year-old girl, were killed in two separate road accidents at New Delhi, police said on Sunday.

A nine-year-old girl was killed when she was run over by a speeding tempo near Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport. The deceased has been identified as Kaushalya, who lived with her father Gajanand and mother Santara at Mahipalpur K-Block.

A police officers said, 'Kaushalya was playing in front of her father’s tea stall near Centaur Hotel when the accident took place at around 10.30 am on Saturday. She died on the spot after being crushed under the rear wheels of the tempo.'

Gajanand claims that the errant tempo driver, Kamlesh, was speeding and driving recklessly. He also alleges that Kaushalya was dragged under the vehicle for around 20 metres. 'Her body was later taken to Safdarjung Hospital after a?forensic team inspected the spot,' the official added.

Kamlesh, a resident of Loha Mandi in Naraina, was overpowered by locals and handed over to police. A case of rash driving and causing death by negligence has been registered against him under sections 279 and 304A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Indira Gandhi International Airport police station. Police have also seized the truck.

In another incident, reported from Kanjhawala area of outer district, a 35-year-old property dealer was killed, while his friend was critically injured, when a speeding truck rammed into their car on Saturday.

'Sunil and his friend were coming from Kutubgarh in a Chevrolet Beat car when they were involved in a head-on collision with a truck at around 10.15 pm,' a police official said.

After receiving information about the incident, police reached at the spot and took the duo to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Mangolpuri, where Sunil was declared brought dead upon arrival.

'His friend is presently unfit to give us a statement. His family have shifted him to another hospital,' the official added.

The official further said that the errant truck driver fled without the vehicle. The owner told us that he would bring the driver to us, he added.

A case under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt) and section 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the truck driver.
