‘Twelfth Night’ to be staged by English troupe

A modern version of Shakespeare’s comedy ‘Twelfth Night’ will be staged here in December by Filter Theatre in association with Royal Shakespeare Company.

“British Council is bringing to India the astounding show which is a fast and furious reworking of Shakespeare’s much-loved comedy. Twelfth Night is a fresh, unconventional and interactive experience with the feel of an intimate, rock gig,” a British Council spokesperson told on Saturday.

The theatre troupe is led by actors Oliver Dimsdale and Ferdy Roberts besides musician Tim Phillips.

‘Twelfth Night’ is a fresh and interactive experience with the feel of an intimate, rock gig being a radically-cut, fast-paced and extremely accessible version of Shakespeare’s much-loved comedy.

“We are sure the Kolkata audience, having a craving for good theatre and fed with a rich literary tradition, will embrace this new production aimed at the 21st century theatre-goers,” the British Council spokesperson added. There will be back-to-back productions on December 1 and December 2 and one separate show for school children who are familiar with the great Bard.
