Timely action averts major fire tragedy at CRPF camp in S’ngr

A major tragedy was on Thursday averted due to timely action by fire fighters who contained a blaze that engulfed two buildings in a CRPF camp storing ammunition and explosives even as two paramilitary personnel suffered burn injuries in the incident.

One of the buildings at the camp in Karan Nagar also houses the office of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) north zone, an official of Fire and Emergency Services said.

He said the department rushed nine fire tenders and four portable pumps to the scene and doused the flames within half an hour.

“All arms, ammunition and explosives were safely retrieved and shifted to a safer place,” the official said.

A police official said two CRPF personnel suffered burn injuries in the incident and were hospitalised.
