Tihar inmate kills self inside cell

A 27-year-old inmate lodged in jail number one of Tihar prisons allegedly hanged himself to death inside a cell on Monday. The deceased person, identified as Ravinder, was jailed in connection with a murder and robbery case at his own locality in South-east Delhi’s Govindpuri. Ravinder was reported to be a habitual offender, who was first lodged in Tihar around 11 years ago. He was reportedly upset after his wife failed to come and meet him in the jail in the previous week, said a police official. On Monday afternoon, Ravinder allegedly hanged himself to death with his clothes tied to a high grill in his own cell (number 8) in the first ward of Jail number 1, said a police official. This was the 19th death and the fourth suicide case, so far this year.
