Three more arrested on extortion charges

The Bidhannagar police have continued raids to intercept the extortionists operating in the area with three more persons arrested on Wednesday. Police arrested 10 extortionists on Monday and Tuesday. With the arrest of these three on Wednesday, the total number of arrests has gone up to 13 till Wednesday night.

“The raid will go on. We will lay no stone unturned to free this area from such people,” a senior police officer said.

Ali Ahmed alias Buro, was arrested on the charge of extortion on Wednesday. A fire arm was also seized from him. Police said, the accused were booked from New Town’s Patharghata area where he was hiding in a house.

Two other extortionists, Dukhiram Mondal and Ranjit Mondal were also been booked as from Salt Lake’s Sector V. On Monday, police had arrested five people from Rajarhat-New Town and Salt Lake area on the charges of extortion. On Tuesday, another five were arrested in the same charge.

The arrest of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation councillor Anindya Chatterjee on the charges of extortion was a success for police. Some officers believe that case had encouraged the force to take up stringent action.
