“The one-stop solution”

Yoga has become a household name not only in India but across the globe. How is it such an attractive pursuit?
Every form of yoga has the asanas such which include pranayam, dhyan, kriyayein, etc. We explain the science behind yoga as ‘jeevan ka jaan vigyan hai’ (the life of living world is science). We motivate people to learn and practice different postures of yoga for reasons apart from keeping fit and fine. These ancient exercises have immense potential to cure every disease including chronic ones.

Yoga comprises all the essential elements of life such as knowledge, emotions, and action. It has the power to cure all lifestyle-based diseases. If one practices anulom vilom pranayam for 15 minutes, it will cure high blood pressure while kapalbhati pranayam has the power to cure thyroid. A 30-minute practice of kapalbhati will cure hepatitis and colitis diseases. Similarly, if one does anulom vilom and kapalbhati pranayam for 30 minutes each, it will cure chronic diseases.

Could you give some examples of yoga curing chronic diseases?
There are many such examples. We have witnessed people suffering from the third and fourth stage of bone cancer, brain cancer, and breast cancer cured just by exercising anulom vilom for an hour every day. People are aware that yoga makes the body healthy but we stress that yoga has the power to change the entire life of a person. We promote yoga as a lifestyle, as a treatment for incurable diseases, for peace of mind, and meditation. We connect yoga with the development of IQ among children, concentration among women, elders, etc. We emphasise the fact that if you want to have all round mental and physical development, yoga is the one-stop solution. We encourage women with infertility issues to do yoga and results are 100 per cent. We have done a detailed experiment regarding this, and now it is part of crores of people across the globe. I’m very confident that the world will adopt it shortly as it is the only way to world peace, health, harmony, and prosperity.

People always complain that they want to practice some asanas but due to the paucity of time and tight schedule, they fail to do so. Life is very busy, and diseases such as high blood pressure, hypertension, cancer, etc. result from an unorganised lifestyle. What is your advice regarding this?
Time can never be a constraint. Even if you don’t have enough time some key yoga postures can be practised in just 10 minutes: anulom vilom and kapalbhati for 3 minutes each and three times bhramari pranayama (the humming bee breath). These can be performed even in flight, car, or office. And if you have some more time, just do surya namaskar for five times and lifestyle diseases will never touch you. It is a fact that nobody in the world wants to be a rogi (ailing) nor have a stressful life or sleep disorders. Yoga is the only remedy for all such ailments. It has so many benefits, and people who are not doing yoga are immature as they are not able to foresee its advantages.

While addressing on the occasion of International Yoga Day last year, our Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called upon Yoga gurus to explore the potential of Yoga to make it useful for people with diabetes. What do you have to say?
The cure for diabetes is available in yoga. Some asanas control high blood sugar like kapalbhati, mandukasana (frog pose), shashankasana (rabbit pose), yoga mudrasana, vakrasana (half spinal twist pose), and gomukha asana (cow face pose). These postures help in stimulating the pancreas, and if anybody having higher sugar level performs all these asanas, it will definitely cure diabetes. As these asanas are tough and cannot be performed easily by all, it will be convenient to do just mandukasana along with kapalbhati which will give instant relief. We have controlled diabetes of billions of people and reduced the weight of many of followers.

India is called the diabetes capital, and this can be fixed by encouraging people to embrace yoga. We also organise obesity camps across the country, and the results are outstanding. Cases of renal failure are highest in the country; I don’t find any other way to prevent this other than yoga. I urge people to have faith in yoga and include it into their daily routine. It will cure all your chronic as well as seasonal ailments.

What are your comments on yoga as a market?
It’s a fact that whenever anything becomes popular, it leads to a market and the same is happening with yoga. When yoga scales some height, udyoga (market) will automatically get a boost. Those who perform yoga also get spirituality. This brings prosperity in their lives. It is also true that without finance, no religion or civilisation can move forward.

Patanjali as a brand is achieving one milestone after another which is a threat to multinational companies. What new products are you planning to launch?
We are not in competition with anyone. We are just working hard to provide swadeshi products to Indians. As our products are getting an overwhelming response, we are focusing on increasing the range of available products. We have set a target to build a capacity of worth Rs 20,000 crore in the next two years and the goal for next five years is to increase production capacity to worth Rs 1 lakh crore. Also, our prime focus is to maintain quality and keep the price of our products reasonable.

Patanjali has provided direct employment to about one lakh people, and about one crore farmers are associated with us indirectly. The target is to provide direct employment to 5 lakh and indirect opportunities to 5 crore farmers.

Right now we have made a strong presence in four types of goods --- natural beverages, natural food, natural cosmetics, and natural home care. The fifth that we have added is natural baby care products --- Patanjali Shishu Cares, which will break the monopoly of Johnson & Johnson. We are also in the process of launching dairy products, textiles, etc. It has been alleged that we are against multinational companies. That is not true. In fact, we are only in favour of swadeshi and our objective is to promote indigenous products at such a huge level that multinational companies wind up their ventures from the country on their own.

Other religious gurus are also introducing ayurvedic products. Is there any competition?
There is no challenge from them. People are very smart. They know what to buy and from whom. We are not in profit-making business; we are for the jan kalyan (public welfare). The profit of Patanjali is meant for charity, and it is being used for Patanjali Research Foundation. You will be surprised to know that neither Acharya Balkrishna nor I have any bank account. Acharya Ji is the unpaid CEO of Patanjali.

What are your views on demonetisation?
It is a historic and brave step taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the betterment of Indian economy. If we get the support of banking system, Reserve Bank of India, taxation department, and everyday people, it will become a successful move. We have to change our habit, and this will take some time. The best part is that people are supporting this measure.
