Swine flu claims 5 more lives in Raj, toll 109

Five more persons succumbed to the contagious swine flu in parts of Rajasthan during the last 24 hours, as the death toll in the state due to the disease, caused by H1N1 virus, mounted to 109 this year.

Two persons each died in Jodhpur and Jaipur districts each, while one succumbed to the flu in Barmer, an official of state Medical and Health Department said on Wednesday.

“Out of 1,248 people tested positive for the virus, 109 have died in the state from January 1 so far,” the official said.

Of the 33 districts in Rajasthan, 29 are affected with swine flu.

Dholpur, Hanumangarh, Sirohi and Baran districts were reported to be safe as per the MHD records, the directorate official said.

So far, Jaipur has recorded the maximum number of 21 deaths due to flu followed by Ajmer 19, Naguar nine, Barmer eight, Jodhpur and Chittorgarh seven each, Banswara and Kota five each, Tonk and Bikaner four each, Bhilwara three, and Dausa, Sikar, Pali, Bundi and Udaipur two each.

Meanwhile, Twenty seven fresh cases of swine flu have also been reported in Telangana which recorded 42 deaths since January one this year.
