Swine Flu cases continue to rise, toll reaches 11

Inspite of the Delhi government’s assurance that Swine Flu is under control, two more disease-related deaths were reported in the capital on Tuesday. It took the  toll to 11, so far, in this year. A 36-year-old woman succumbed in the Apollo hospital and another 45-year-old woman in Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on Tuesday.

In addition to this, 53 new cases were reported in the capital, taking the total number to 510.

Though the government is constantly assuring the masses to not  panic, there is a consistent rise in the number of cases, which is a matter of serious concern. Doctors say 30 per cent of the patients visiting the hospital have high fever, sore throat, cough and chest congestion, which are common symptoms of being affected by the H1N1 virus.

Moreover, in comparison to last year, when there were only 78 cases and 1 death reported in the capital, this year, it’s almost five times more. As many as 510 cases have been reported with 11 deaths in just two months. The extended winter this year is being blamed for the rise in Swine Flu cases.  Ajeet Mishra, a south Delhi resident, said, ‘The change in weather, out of season rain and the rapid spread of Swine Flu is making all the Delhiites really worried.’
