Suryanelli gangrape case posted to 15 March

The Kerala High court on Monday adjourned to 15 March the Suryanelli gangrape case, allegedly involving Rajya Sabha deputy chairman P J Kurien, as it is awaiting various records from the apex court, including the case diary and deposition of witnesses. Earlier the bail pleas had been posted for Monday.

A division bench, comprising justices K T Sankaran and M L Joseph Francis will hear appeals of the accused from 2 April, while their bail pleas will be heard from 15 March. Though counsel for the accused wanted the case to be heard on 8 March, it was adjourned to 15 March at the request of the Director General of Prosecutions.

The Supreme Court had in January set aside the Kerala HC’s order, acquitting all 35 accused and directed it to hear the matter afresh.
