State government allots 15-acre plot to Cognizant

The state government has allotted a 15-acre plot to Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTS) in New Town to bring up its new unit where roughly around 15,000 jobs would be created. The IT major is one of the top recruiters in the country. CTS already has two establishments in Salt Lake Sector V and one in Bantala. More importantly, the fee that the IT major needs to pay HIDCO for the transfer of the ownership of the plot has been waived. State Education minister Partha Chatterjee said, “CTS had approached the Chief Minister for a new plot. The company had put in an application with the West Bengal Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO). Thus, it has been decided to give them 15-acre land from Sapurji Development Private Limited’s 50-acre plot.” Chatterjee said that the state government was always serious about the IT industry and had taken various steps to attract more investment in this sector.
