Six arrested for travel in car with Defence sticker

Six people were arrested at Jamalpur in Burdwan district on Monday for travelling in a SUV which had a Defence Ministry sticker pasted on its wind shields though the occupants could not produce any supporting documents.

A senior police officer said the patrolling cops intercepted the white colored SUV which had “Govt of India, Ministry of Defence” sticker pasted on the front and back windscreens.

As the car occupants could not produce any papers to support their claim of being on an Union ministry of Defence assignment, and gave “incoherent” replies, they were taken to police station and then arrested, the officer said.

The six, identified as Sakil Ahmed, Salim Akhtar, Seikh Irfan, Seikh Asrafuddin, Abu Akhtar, Sk Shah Rukh said they were residents of Topsia Road in south Kolkata.

The vehicle had Kolkata's Beltala Motor Vehicles office registration no. The officer said the police were exploring all angles including the possibility of them being part of any organisation, active in state or abroad.

Two suspected terrorists of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh were killed in a blast at Khagragarh area of the district on October 2, 2014.

The alleged kingpin was arrested one year back by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
