Sitharaman meets stakeholders of closed tea gardens

Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday met stakeholders of closed and stressed tea plantations of West Bengal at Siliguri amidst reports of death of tea garden workers. “Meeting and consultation with stakeholders of closed/stressed tea plantations of West Bengal in Siliguri today,” the minister said in a tweet.

She also visited and interacted with workers of Bundapani tea garden near Bhutan border in West Bengal.

CM Mamata Banerjee had warned tea estate owners to hand over the business to government if they were unable to run it properly.
