Shanu remanded in judicial custody for duping bizman

Shanu, who was arrested in connection with the Red Road hit-and-run case, has been booked in another cheating case for duping a businessman after assuring him help to get his niece admitted to a school in Noida.

Police said Shanu was produced before the court in connection with the cheating case on Thursday and he was remanded in judicial custody till February 15.

The businessman from Kasba came to know about Shanu after he was arrested in the Red Road hit-and-run case in which officer of the Indian Air Force Corporal Abhimanyu Gaud was killed. Initially he couldn’t realise that it was the same person to whom he had given Rs 35,000 in 2014.

After enquiring, he came to know that Shanu was the person who had befooled him in November 2014. The accused had assured all help to the businessman in getting his niece admitted to a school and took Rs 35,000.

But Shanu neither helped the businessman nor had he returned the money.

He kept assuring for the initial few days after taking money and later stopped contacting him. The businessman too had failed to trace Shanu despite searching him desperately.

Interestingly, on Thursday family members of Shanu returned Rs 35,000 to the businessman.

This comes at the time when he had been remanded in judicial custody for cheating the person.

It may be mentioned that in a video, which Johny had sent from a hideout before getting arrested, he had claimed that they had fled in their Skoda finding Shambia’s car hitting the security barricades as they were apprehended that they may get caught in connection with some other prior cases against them.

“It suggests that they might be having some more cases in connection with other incidents and Shanu's cheating case is one of those,” said a police officer.

Meanwhile, the rest of the two accused Shambia Sohrab and Johny will be produced before the Bankshall Court on Friday in connection with the hit-and-run case.

It may be mentioned that the police are yet to arrest father and elder brother of Shambia.

His father Md Sohrab is former RJD MLA is yet to be arrested despite a warrant was issued against him.

Police officer said that the arrest of Md Sohrab was important in this case and raids were conducted at different places to find him.
