Seven injured in West Bengal bomb blast

At least seven people were injured on Sunday when a bomb went off in a bus in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district, police said.

The incident happened in Barobhisa town in the district, some eight km from the Bengal-Assam border. The explosion took place minutes after the bus parked in front of a hotel and when the passengers were alighting.

‘Seven persons received injuries. The bus was bound for neighbouring Bhutan from Assam. The National Liberation Force of Bengalis (NLFB) has claimed responsibility for the blast,’ said Superintendent of Police (Jalpaiguri) Amit Javalgi.

Police have found some leaflets wherein the little known NLFB has claimed that the act is to avenge the ‘torture and killings of Bengalis in Assam’.

Top police officials and a bomb disposal squad reached the spot. The injured were admitted to hospital.
