Self-defense campaigns to curb sexual harassment cases in public spaces

In order to fight out sexual harassments, Breakthrough, a human rights organisation, will be conducting a series of awareness and self-defense campaigns called #Askingforit, on July 1.

The organisation, working in six states across India which includes Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Delhi and Haryana, will be organising the awareness and self-defense programmes at Sarojini Nagar Market bus stop from 2 pm to 3 pm. The organisation will also hold <g data-gr-id="20">a similar programmes</g> at INA Market bus stop from 6 pm to 7 pm.

The organisation’s aim is to create a ‘Breakthrough Generation’ who will bring about the change. 

In a statement it said: “More than 80 <g data-gr-id="15">per cent</g> girls and women feel unsafe in public spaces like bus stops and railway stations. We turn to the by-standers to break the silence, speak out and intervene.” 

Through the campaign, it aims at changing the situation and thus add: “<g data-gr-id="18">Their</g> (Breakthrough Generation) bold collective action will deliver irreversible impact on the issue of our time.”
