Security guard foils robbery attempt, shot at

A private security guard suffered gunshot injury when he tried to avert robbery attempt by three robbers, but managed to catch one of the robbers, the police said.

The incident took place around 4 am in Bawana Industrial area, falling under Shahabad Dairy in outer district, where the construction work is in process under Rajeev Vikas Yojana of the central government. The construction site is guarded by private security personnel.

‘Three weapon-borne assailants entered the premises of the construction site, apparently for stealing iron rods and other materials. One of the security guards, Chandan Kumar Jha, 30, noticed the suspicious behaviour of the trio. He immediately raised an alarm and managed to hold one of the assailants captive after a scuffle,’ said a police officer.

The assailant, in order to free himself, allegedly opened fire on Jha who received two bullets on his shoulder and chest. Despite injuries, Jha continued to fight with the assailant and hit him with an iron rod on assailant’s head, the official said.

Soon after that, two more security guards arrived on the spot and helped Jha. The assailant, identified as Jasbir, suffered serious injuries.

Both Jha and Jasbir were taken to Maharshi Valmiki hospital and are undergoing treatment. Jha’s conditions is said to be critical, a police officer said.

The case of robbery has been registered in Shahabad Dairy police station. The police has launched a hunt to nab the other two robbers, said and official. Jha hails from Bihar and lives in Bawana area in rented accommodation with his family.
