SEC demands FIR against PSU officials

Bihar State Election Commission (SEC) has directed district magistrates to lodge FIRs against heads of public sector organisations who did not declare holiday for their employees in some districts to enable them to cast votes in the urban local bodies polls in the state.

SEC Secretary Ahi Bhushan Pandey in a letter to the DMs yesterday directed them to find out officials who did not grant holiday and lodge FIR against them under Section 471(3) of Bihar Municipal Act, 2007 and submit the compliance report.

Several employees bodies, including Bihar Provincial Bank Employees Association and All India Confederation of SC/ST Employees Organisation had complained to the SEC that the government and public sector employees at several places in the state were not granted holiday on the polling day in violation of Bihar Municipal Act.

They had alleged that the offices of LIC and public sector banks were open in several districts on the polling date and their employees were not granted hoiday as stipulated,

The urban local bodies polls were held on 17 May to elect 2494 ward members of seven municipal corporations, 32 nagar parishads and 67 nagar panchayats spread over 36 districts.
