Rupee slides 13 paise to close at 57.15

The rupee depreciated by another 13 paise to settle at 57.15, registering same as its last Friday's all-time closing low, against the Greenback on sustained dollar demand from importers amid firm dollar overseas.

However, positive local stocks amid renewed capital inflows capped the rupee fall to certain extent, a forex dealer said.

At the Interbank Foreign Exchange market, the local unit opened slightly weak at 57.06 a dollar from overnight close of 57.02 and moved in a range of 57.05 and 57.24 before closing at 57.15, showing a fall of 0.23 pct.

Persistent month-end dollar demand from importers, mainly oil refiners, kept the rupee under pressure.

The benchmark sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange on Wednesday closed up by over 61 points or 0.36 per cent at 16,967.76.
