Rs 39 lakh gold seized at Kolkata airport, one held

Customs department officers at Kolkata airport have seized smuggled gold bars worth Rs 39 lakh from two passengers who arrived from Bangkok.

According to Vinod Kumar Pandey, assistant commissioner of Customs department’s Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at Kolkata airport, the two passengers had flew in by a Thai Airways flight from Bangkok late on Monday night. AIU officers intercepted Nanda Kishore Gupta of Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh as he was moving out of the airport terminal through the green channel. Pradip Kumar of Dum Dum was intercepted in a similar way and gold bars weighing 674 grams were recovered from him.
