Responsibilities for panchayat members have risen: Rawat

Addressing the zila panchayat president and members at the Nagar Nigam auditorium on Monday in state capital as the chief guest at their swearing-in ceremony, chief minister Harish Rawat said that the India of today had changed and so has the generation’s thinking.

Stating that the people’s aspirations has increased, the chief minister advised that in this vast democracy, all institutions had to be accorded powers in a way that progress could be speeded up to meet the expectations.

Congratulating the newly elected zila panchayat president and members, the chief minister said that democracy has picked up pace. People have begun to closely evaluate the performance of public representatives.

‘The biggest challenge before the representatives remained whether they could be re-elected. To ensure this, they have to work with sincerity from right now. He also promised to extend all possible cooperation to the newly elected three tiered panchayats.

A continuous dialogue would be maintained by the state government with the panchayat representatives. As part of this, time would be accorded to panchayat representatives in the chief minister’s weekly programme’, he said.
