Red Road hit and run case: Police to file charge-sheet by month end

The city police are likely to file charge-sheet in connection with the Red Road hit-and-run case by the end of this month.

It may be recalled that an officer of the Indian Air Force Corporal Abhimanyu Gaud was killed after being hit by a car during the rehearsal of the Republic Day Parade on Red Road on January 13.

According to the sources in the city police’s detective department if everything goes as planned then it will not take more than another three to four days to make all documents ready to file the charge-sheet. The homicide section of the city police’s detective department has similar views on the incident as claimed by the officers of the Indian Air Force a day after the incident. The Air Force officers had claimed after speaking to the people and their officers those who had witnessed the incident that there was only one person in the car that had hit Gaud after breaking two security barricades. It is learnt that the investigating officers of the Kolkata Police have also found after the probe that Shambia Sohrab, son of the former RJD MLA Md Sohrab, was driving the car and the accident took place when he was returning that morning from a club with some other friends.

The city police had arrested Shambia four days after the incident and two of his friends – Johny and Shanu – were arrested later.
