Ram Lal Anand college stops Saibaba from resuming office

Professor G N Saibaba, who is out on bail for allegedly having links with naxalites, will not be allowed to teach as the Ram Lal Anand College has refused to resume Saibaba’s term saying that his suspension from services would continue till the criminal case against him in Maharashtra is settled.

Saibaba, an English teacher in the college was suspended since his arrest in a case allegedly related to his involvement in the Maoist activities.

In response to Saibaba’s request to resume duties, a letter by the Principal stated that his suspension from services would continue till the criminal case against him in Maharashtra is settled. The letter also reiterates the decision to prevent Dr Saibaba’s entry inside the college till further orders.

“Independent disciplinary proceedings are being contemplated under the University Act, Ordinance and Rules for your act of unbecoming of a teacher besides other misconducts noticed now,” a letter to Saibaba reads.

The decision of disciplinary action against Saiababa was initiated after getting report from a one man-fact-finding committee. The committee had suggested action against professor Saibaba, to which the Committee for Defense and Release (CDR) of Saibaba condemned the act.

The CDR group criticised the arbitrary manner in which the authorities of RLA College continuously denied the fundamental rights of Saibaba. “Denial to his right to resume duties as an Assistant Professor in the college after he has been granted unconditional bail by the Supreme Court of India in April is shameful,” a letter of CDR group reads.
