Railway employee molests minor, locks himself in toilet

Police have arrested one railway employee on the charges of molesting a minor girl inside a train on late Saturday night. The incident took place inside B1 coach of Paharia Express in which the 
victim was travelling to New Jalpaiguri.

The incident took place in the Up Paharia Express’ B1 coach. The railway staff, Naren Rajbanshi was arrested by the police after he remained confined inside a toilet of the train for a while.

It was learnt that Naren had confessed of his crime in the interrogation. Police said that the girl, a class IV student boarded the Up Paharia Express at Howrah station along with her grandparents. 
Later, the accused molested the girl in the running train. After the incident created much furore inside the coach, the accused fled the spot and hid inside the toilet.

The family members of the girl lodged complaint with the Government Railway Police at Bandel. After being informed from Bandel GRP and team of police personnel headed by the officer-in-charge from Katwa conducted raids after the train reached there but failed to arrest the accused who locked himself inside a toilet of the train. 

Though, the police later managed to catch hold of the accused after breaking the door. On the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim’s relatives, the police arrested the accused Naren Rajbanshi who had lured the minor school girl to a corner with some food.

The girl’s family members told the police that the accused had molested the girl and when she cried 
for help, the accused fled from the coach. Hearing the screams of the girl the family members rushed to her rescue and found the girl in a traumatised condition.

The victim narrated the ordeal to her family members following which they registered a complaint with the police.

The girl stays with her grandparents at Siliguri and studies at a school there. She was going to Siliguri along with her grandparents on Saturday night when the incident took place. The victim’s father is also a railway employee. The incident triggered tension inside the running train with the passengers expressing their anger at the railway staff members who were on duty in the train. The situation came to normal after the police assured them that the accused would be arrested soon.

According to the police the accused Naren, a resident of Jalpaiguri is a mechanical staff of Railways. He has been interrogated by the police.
