Purification of Bisada temple takes place amid Section 144

The fateful Bisada village is again in limelight as a new woman priest on Monday went ahead with the purification (shuddhikaran) of the temple and the entire village. According to villagers, they had applied for the permission but police rejected it and put heavy police deployment besides invoking Section 144. Though the village witnessed tension during the programme, the district administration managed to avert any untoward incident.

The ‘shuddhikaran’ ceremony was performed by Sadhvi Harshita Giri, the new priest of the temple which was allegedly used by BJP leader Sanjay Rana’s son Vishal Rana to announce and spread rumours about the alleged cow slaughter by Akhlaq, leading to his public lynching. As the district administration had imposed Section 144, no outsider was allowed to enter the village. Only a few activists from outside were allowed to enter the village for participating in it.

“To avoid any incident, we have deployed adequate force and are keeping eye on every movement. We have also asked people not to assemble in and around the village,” said a senior cop.
