Proposal sent to include candidates from 3 MCDs in DDA governing body

After a long wait of over two years, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has finally drafted a proposal to include nominated representatives from the three municipal corporations in its governing body.
The proposal has been sent to Union Urban Development Ministry for approval, ? in which the city planner has proposed to include one member each from the three principal civic bodies.
? ‘We have recently sent a proposal to Union Ministry of Urban Development to amend the law, which would include one councilor each from three MCDs,’ said Balvinder Kumar, vice chairman of DDA. The peculiar situation arises due to the tri-furcation of MCD ?as two councillors were appointed as members in DDA board. The previous government never took the matter forward and therefore MCD did not have any representation in DDA since 2012.

?Like DDA, Delhi Jal Board would also have two members from MCD. However, on the direction of the Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi,  DJB had approved of the nomination?. As the DDA? comes under Union Ministry of Urban Development the matter has been sent to the ministry for approval.
Meanwhile, the civic bodies have welcomed the  DDA’s move. ‘We had been constantly raising our voices against arbitrary decisions at DDA. We did not have a representation in DDA. This is a step in the forward direction. There will be better coordination between civic bodies and DDA now’, said Satish Upadhyaya, chairman of standing committee in South Delhi Municipal Corporation.
Mohan Bhardwaj, standing committee chairman of North Delhi Municipal Corporation said that no representation created confusion among the agencies. ‘Although the municipal commissioner is a part these bodies, the nomination of elected members must happen to put forward the demands and aspirations of common man. Non-inclusion of elected members led to lack of coordination among different bodies,’ said Bhardwaj.
