Police arrested a promoter and his wife on Saturday night from North 24 Parganas’ Baguiati, on the charge of forgery and threatening to murder.
The sleuths of the anti-fraud section of the detective department, Bidhannagar Commissionerate arrested the couple from a residence at Baguiati.
The accused persons tried to escape from the house, but police caught them. Police said, Surajit Maity and Champa Maity, the couple were arrested. They will be produced before Bidhannagar Chief Judicial Magistrate Court.
“Surajit and Champa set up an apartment and started to sell flats there. But they were reluctant to give
physical possession after receiving money from their customers. Some of the customers lodged complaints with us against the couple. One elderly woman walked down to the police station and said that the accused had threatened to kill her if she wanted her money back again,” said a police officer.
Investigators surrounded the house of the accused promoter at Rajarhat’s Dashadran area on Saturday night.
“The couple tried to escape by jumping off the balcony. Their intention was to decamp the spot on a motor bike, which was kept at the ground floor. But our officer caught them there,” the officer added.
It should be recalled that Prasanta Roy, the prime accused in the syndicate clash outside a jewellery showroom near Salt Lake City Centre in December, was arrested from his home at Duttabad, a few weeks ago.
Police said, Roy and his men had allegedly threatened the owner of the jewellery showroom to take construction materials from them during an expansion work.
A few weeks ago, police arrested a promoter for allegedly killing a woman client at his construction site at Rajarhat. She was demanding him to handover her flat after a long delay. The body of the woman was missing since some day and later it was found in Bhojerhat area.
