President cancels Jangipur trip due to poor visibility

President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday cancelled his visit to Jangipur in Murshidabad district due to bad weather and poor visibility, prematurely ending his three-day visit to West Bengal.

The President left for Delhi from NSC Bose International Airport, airport officials said. Earlier in the day, after delivering the Indira Gandhi Memorial lecture at the Asiatic Society, the President arrived at the airport to leave for Jangipur by a helicopter to participate in the concluding function of the K K Mukherjee Memorial football tournament.

He waited for a long time at the airport for the weather to improve, but in vain, the officials said.
Mukherjee attended a number of programmes in the city and Howrah since he arrived here on December 12.
