Policemen deployed at accident prone spot on Durgapur E-Way

In a bid to avoid further accidents in the area, the district police deployed policemen to maintain traffic at the spot on Durgapur Expressway where four persons were killed in a road accident on Sunday when a truck and a mini-truck collided head on.

The accident had taken place at Gurap in Hooghly when the mini-truck entered the wrong flank violating traffic norms. Local people had demanded posting of a policemen at the spot where accidents due to violation of traffic norms had been a regular incident.

Many trucks used to enter the opposite flank through a cut out to reach an area where there are many factories. The police had put up road signs to make drivers aware of the risks if they take the wrong flank. Despite putting up the road signs the drivers hardly used to care and risked their lives to reach their destinations within a short time.

Frequent accidents claimed lives and at the same time it leads to the harassment of the people as accidents cause massive traffic congestion in the area. Thus the people had demanded posting of a policeman to check violation of traffic norms.

Sanatan Biswas, a local tea stall owner, said “I would like to thank the district police for posting the policeman. Besides deploying the policeman, it would be better if the police put up more road signs to make the drivers aware of the risks. The road signs will be useful when there will be no policeman at night.”
