Police recover man’s body from under-construction building at Tiljala

Mystery shrouds the death of a 29-year-old man, whose body with hands and legs tied was recovered from the first floor of an under-construction building on CN Roy Road at Tiljala on Sunday morning, police said.

Local people found the victim Kavin Alfred D Silva lying unconscious in the under construction building and informed the police. Policemen from Tiljala Police Station rushed to the spot and found that the victim’s hands and legs were tied with pieces of clothes.   They immediately took him to Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital where he was declared brought dead. Investigation revealed that he had left home at around 6 pm on Saturday and he had plans to go to Park Street. He had last contacted with his family members at around 8 pm over phone. His family members tried to contact him when he didn’t return till late night. But his phone was in switch off mode. On Sunday morning his body was recovered from the building.

Police came to know that he was a drug addict and he was admitted to a rehabilitation centre for the past six months. He was released from the centre four days ago.

The victim’s brother-in-law Albert John Khare had lodged a complaint with the police. Police didn’t find any injury marks on his body, but they suspect that D Silva was strangulated. Police are now trying to find out the persons with whom he had plans to go to Park Street. They are going through the call details of the victim’s mobile phone.
