PM’s visit puts on hold deadly militants’ search in Valley

The Prime Minister's visit to Kashmir has put the hunt for assailants, who carried out ferocious assault on Army convoy at Hyderpora bypass, on hold. The attack is  believed to be the deadliest in this decade, which killed eight soldiers and left around 14 injured.

Currently, the security apparatus including police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been mainly deployed in and around Srinagar to thwart any attempt to disrupt the visit.

‘We are busy with Prime Minister's visit and are maintaing strict vigil in the area. Once the PM visit is over, Police will start the investigation to track the attackers,’ commandant Kishor Prasad, PRO CRPF told Millennium Post.

However, official sources said that ‘luck’ played role in the escape of militants from the scene. They said just few kilometers away from the site, the fleeing militants were confronted by CRPF at a police checkpoint in Barzulla.

‘We were maintaing high alert in the backdrop of intelligence reports as they (militants) wanted to show their presence. For this, nakas, checkpoints were maintained to foil their attempt. However, luck favored them this time,’ said a senior official.

Superintendent of police Budgam district Irshad Ahmad said that they have not got any clues regarding the militants yet.

The militants, believed to be two in number had meticulously carried out the entire attack as they first snatched a bike from two students and later sped away from Hyderpora in a Santro car. Since the start of this year, militants have ratcheted up violence in the Valley.

The Army's PRO defense 15 corps commander Lt Col Ankur Vashist as well asserted that there is no clue about the whereabouts of attackers as of now.

Meanwhile, in the fresh wave of attack, militants gunned down a ‘protected’ person in North Kashmir's Sopore town. ‘Two Hizbul Mujahideen militants killed Kifayat Husain Rizvi in his office.

He contested last election unsuccessfully. His personal security gaurds weren't with him at the time of attack,’ said superintendent of police Sopore Imtiyaz Hussain.
