PM calls meeting to review infra projects

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has called a meeting of the various ministries, including power and coal, to review the progress of infrastructure projects.

Singh would meet the ministers of power, coal, civil aviation, railways and shipping at his residence, the sources said. Various power and road projects are stuck due to environment or financial hurdles. The meeting may address these issues, the sources said on Wednesday.

Many highway projects in the country are stalled as the companies are unable to tie up funds for these projects.

As far as power and coal sectors are concerned, many thermal plants are facing acute fuel shortages, which is impacting electricity generation.

The meeting may also look into the ministry of civil aviation ministry’s proposal of attracting more investments in the sector by bringing more airports under the PPP [Public-Private-Partnership] model.

Shares of infrastructure companies witnessed handsome gains ahead of a key meeting.
